Character Name: Princess Twilia
Fandom: Original the character (do not steal)
World breakdown: SO Twilia comes from a fantasy world that is more or less 18th century in terms of aesthetics and art/culture, but contains some steampunk elements along with some quirky magical elements. Okay, maybe not technically steampunk since there's no steam powered stuff. Gaslamp fantasy is probably more accurate.

The country Twilia's from, Valdra, is a mishmash of different North European cultures and influences and is also known for its incredibly old and powerful magical traditions. Some of these kind of border on “things man was not meant to know”, such as...oh, I dunno, lichification. The Valdran court is also a Game of Thrones level web of lies and intrigue.

Other countries exist, but aren't that fleshed out at the moment—although none of them are relevant to Twilia's development or past as of right now. Countries that have names but aren't too important to her arc include Taranis (a city-state on an island that's a haven for pirates) and Lian (which is more or less not!China).

Venant (which...honestly is a mishmash of different cultures IDEK, it's supposed to be a melting pot anyway) is another country that lies across the sea from Valdra, and is where Twilia was living for a few months prior to the canon point she's being taken from. It doesn't have as prevalent magic or anything, but it's noted for having very advanced technology/science compared to the rest of the world at this time. More specifically, Venanti technology uses very small amounts of magic in their work, but uses it very efficiently (and doesn't place class restrictions on the use of magic). Seriously. IT'S GOT INDOOR PLUMBING. And PRIMITIVE REFRIGERATION.

And that's about it I guess.

Character history:

...sounds easy enough, except for the fact that none of that actually happened. Instead, that was the “official” story put out by Twilia's mother to cover up the fact that her and her sister Alruna were ungodly experiment homunculus things.

Despite this, however, Twilia was brought up as normally as a young princess could possibly be, which included extensive education in a number of different subjects and being thrust into the intrigue of the Valdran court. Because her relationship with her parents was somewhat distant, the only person she felt terribly close to was her sister, who was a flawed “prototype” homunculus who was capable of emotions, but unable to process them in a healthy way or properly control her magic. In return, Alruna was also fairly close to her as kids, in a “you're the only one who gets me” kind of way.
Things became decidedly more complicated when the both of them came of age, which in Valdra is about 15 or so. Because the two of them had an um, unorthodox past as forbidden experiments that no one knew about, they hadn't had the displeasure of being betrothed to someone they barely knew without their consent. (Well that, and Twilia's parents were actually halfway decent and preferred to have their daughters' input on what loveless political marriage she got put into.)

Nobles and royals, both from Valdra and from neighboring kingdoms, sent the two sisters a storm of gifts and correspondences, hoping to win one of the girls' hand in marriage. Alruna was intrigued by this, but was discouraged by their parents and also ambivalent about leaving her sister behind. Twilia, excited at the prospect of leaving her childhood home and being considered a woman rather than a girl, jumped at the chance and accepted an offer from the crown prince of Venant.

They were married several months later, and resentment and jealousy started bubbling up in Alruna's heart. Despite Twilia's attempts to contact her sister after the wedding, she hadn't been getting any replies back, at least not from Alruna herself.

Then their mother got sick. (Alruna had actually been slowly poisoning her in an attempt to be free from her control, but no one knew that.) Fearing that she would die, Twilia arranged to visit her home again, but got sucked into this jamjar hell instead.

Character personality: On the surface, Twilia seems like the typical fairytale princess. Kind, proper, incorruptibly pure, and so on…

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

It's not that she's actually like this, it's just that her typical reaction to any sort of stressor is, well:

this is fine

Seriously. While Twilia still has some youthful idealism, she's also a lot more pragmatic, catty, and human than one would expect her to be. She's an anxiety-riddled, obsessive, cagey mess on the inside and I'm not sorry.

She's also prone to keeping people at arm's length regarding her real concerns and fears, even if she does otherwise care about them. This is largely because her parents, while they still cared about her, still groomed her to be a political… something, and then her sister, arguably the only person she felt she could really be herself around, turned out to be a murderous asshole.

She's also prone to getting just a bit anxious and terrified when around situations she can't control, as well as resorting to manipulation even when she knows it's a shitty thing to do, because as far as she was taught that is just what you do.

Yeah.

Despite everything, though, a part of her really resents the obligations she's been given and wants to be free of them. She tries her best to stifle these thoughts as much as she can, though, because hi measuring fulfilling one's imposed duties as a metric of their self-worth.

Powers/Abilities: Twilia is capable of a number of different magical feats, but only two of them are anything she's going to be actually capable of while here, and those are:

-Healing (which she currently is only able to do for small maladies and extremely minor injuries), and
-Encouraging plants to grow/thrive

Abilities she doesn't have include:

-Creating artificial life forms through complicated and bizarre alchemical ectobiology
-Spying on people through the magical mirror in her inventory. This is currently nerfed, but if this ever comes back, it's going to be limited to people she knows and places she's either been to or is able to visualize.

Other than that, she doesn't have any real abilities or powers to speak of. She's a fairly healthy teenager who, despite her station, does get at least moderate exercise, so um...at least she can run away from things if needed? That's helpful.

Items on your character:

-One frilly-ass outfit (it's a baby blue dress with some petticoats n shit, it's great) and coordinating jewelry.
-A jeweled hand mirror with a gold snake coiled up the handle. It's actually magical, but it doesn't do anything here for now.
-A small travel toiletry kit like this, which contains a small bottle of rose perfume and a secret stash of comfits.
-A dirty “romance” novel
